Students Get Great Career Advice

Despite a terrible economy and ferocious job competition, a rewarding career in sports media is hardly the longest of longshots. That was merely one takeaway for students attending yesterday's "New Media and Sports: It's a Whole New Ballgame"  seminar at the Museum. Actually, attendees walked away with some hope and ingenious advice from an accomplished panel of sports media professionals. The latest in our series of seminars with the good folks at Diamond Sports provided job-seekers with a whole lot of competitive intelligence and industry knowledge. Another takeaway: Get your foot in the door and any job, no matter how menial, is a great way to do it. (Even offer to volunteer if it means getting in.) Special thanks to Don Sperling, Executive Producer, NY Giants; Gary Hoenig, VP, GM and Editorial Director, ESPN; Colleen Duffy-Brace, VP, ANC Sports; Richard Deitsch, reporter, Sports Illustrated; Kelly Whiteside, reporter, USA Today; and David Gavant, Executive Producer, MLB Productions, for their time and expertise. And a special thanks to Walter Recher and Dave Torromeo of Diamond Sports (www.DiamondSportsCareers.com)  for, as a wise man once said, making this day necessary.
