If the World Were Perfect

Celebrating 70 Years of the Perfect Game

Now on display until June 2027

Welcome to the 70th anniversary celebration of what is arguably the most famous game in baseball history, Game Five of the 1956 World Series, the Brooklyn Dodgers versus the New York Yankees. In the nearly 250,000 Major League Baseball (MLB) games played since 1876, the league officially recognizes only 24 perfect games. On October 8, 1956, pitcher Don Larsen and catcher Yogi Berra would complete only the sixth perfect game ever – the only one in World Series history.

This exhibition, on display until June 2027, explores the 1956 perfect game and the 1999 perfect game, which coincidentally occurred on Yogi Berra Day, and the idea of perfection.

Artifacts on display include the game-used mitt Yogi used to catch the 1956 perfect game, original baseball cards, a 1999 perfect game hand-written scorecard, and other memorabilia from both of these games.

As Yogi always used to say… if the world were perfect, it wouldn’t be. But somehow, as magic seemed to always follow him, he was present for two days of baseball perfection.
